PORTO Shizuoka Yoshimune: The concept is a "shared office where you can stay", a dedicated accommodation facility for long-stay workers.

Stay/PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune

PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune, a dedicated workcation accommodation facility for nomadic workers who are not restricted by where they work, opened in July 2024. Reflecting the opinions of actual nomadic workers, the facility provides a working space where they can work comfortably and without stress. In your off-time, you can enjoy a quiet port town with gourmet food, leisure activities and hot springs all within walking distance. Why not experience a workcation in a petit resort in Shizuoka, 90 minutes from Tokyo Station?

Mochimune is a peaceful port town with a fishing port and bathing beach, two train stops from JR Shizuoka Station.

While the area is bustling with new commercial facilities, a little further down the main street, private houses line narrow alleys where cars can barely pass, leaving behind a nostalgic Showa-era landscape. PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune opened in Mochimune in July 2024. Based on the concept of a "share office where you can stay overnight", it is the only facility in Shizuoka City dedicated to workstations for people staying for two nights or longer.

We spoke to owner Yukio Sasaki, who runs PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune.

The trigger was the ADDress, a housing sub-subscription.

Owner Sasaki was originally an employee of Shizuoka City. He met many interesting nomadic workers through the ADDress service, which he started after taking early retirement, and thought they would be pleased if there were accommodation for long-term residents, so he poured all the know-how he gained from ADDress into PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune, an accommodation facility dedicated to workcationers. PORTO Shizuoka Yoshimune was opened. The minimum stay is two nights, as it is aimed at long-stay guests. It is a business version of a guesthouse where you can stay for a long time at a reasonable price.

Normally, it is rare for people to come back consecutively after one visit, but about a year after the opening of Mochimune, there are users who like it so much that they keep coming back three or four times. People who have visited various places in Japan have told us that they liked Mochimune by word of mouth, and the real voices of users seem to be spreading steadily.

A working environment that allows you to concentrate on your work

If you want to concentrate on work during the day and enjoy the local area in your off-time, PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune is the perfect accommodation for you, but it is generally not manned.

As there is no unattended check-in and check-out, as well as no bed-making, users are required to cover the beds with sheets and do simple cleaning at check-out on their own. Instead of a generous hospitality, the charm of PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune is that it is reasonably priced and can be used at one's own pace.

A sensor light is installed on the leading line from the entrance to the room, so the light comes on automatically at night.

There are six rooms. The facility is dedicated to workcation, so you can work in a stress-free environment. This is a standard single room with a capacity of one person. The desk is 60 cm deep and 180 cm wide for spacious use and is equipped with a monitor. A high-speed internet connection with 10 Gigabit fibre optic cable has been installed, so you can send and receive large amounts of data and conduct remote meetings without stress. The ceiling light in the room has a colour and light dimming function, and you can choose from six different colours, from daylight white, which is suitable for work, to warmer colours for rest, which helps you switch on and off your work.

The shared dining room is also equipped with cooking utensils, crockery and condiments. There are also separate food stockers for each room, so you can use these for room-temperature items. If you don't want to eat out for every meal... If you don't want to eat out for every meal, you can just buy the ingredients and prepare your own meals.

In addition, there is a washing machine, gas dryer and shower. If you want to soak in a spacious bathtub, try the Mochimune Minato Onsen, a 3-minute walk away.

The co-working space on the ground floor can also be used as a work area.

PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune values the distance it enjoys with its guests

20250703porto07.jpg

Mr Sasaki, owner of PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune, says that he values a reasonable distance from his guests. If they are too close, it interferes with work, but I don't want zero communication either. I think most people who work in their rooms during the day are usually alone, so many of them are looking to socialise during their off-time. A moderate sense of distance that does not interfere with work may be what makes PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune so comfortable.

Fortunately, local pubs, supermarkets, spa facilities and breweries are all within a 5-minute walk of PORTO Shizuoka Mochimune, so there are likely to be opportunities to interact with locals. We encourage you to take a walk around the facility and experience the charm of Mochimune.
