An Italian restaurant located in a quiet backstreet alley
Foods/Il Castagno
Castagno is an Italian restaurant located in a quiet residential area, about a 5-minute walk from JR Mochimune
Station. The restaurant is set in a renovated Taisho-era house, and serves dishes made with fresh local
ingredients. Why not try some authentic Italian cuisine in a quiet and secret location far from the reaches of
cars?
"Il Castagno", an Italian restaurant that moved to the port town of Mochimune
The restaurant first opened in January 2005 as "Osteria Il Castagno" in Tomoe-cho, Aoi Ward. After 15 years in
business, it moved to the small port town of Mochimune in August 2020 and reopened under the new name "Il
Castagno".
Owner-chef Inami has experience training in Italy, moving from one restaurant to another as he liked. As his
Italian cuisine is based on local cuisine, he makes use of the experience he gained in Italy while also visiting
local producers in Shizuoka and listening to their thoughts as he thoroughly explores the selection of
ingredients.
One of the charms of Castagno is the menu that sources unique ingredients from local producers of Mochimune,
such as shirasu (whitebait), other fish caught in Mochimune port, and local vegetables. Homemade ravioli and
breaded shiitake mushrooms from Fujieda are also excellent dishes that bring out the best in the quality of the
ingredients. After your meal, please enjoy a homemade dessert made by the chef's wife.
